After 10 years of operatic, jazz and and theatrical vocal training, Mathew V moved from Vancouver, Canada to London, England at the age of 17, where he found his signature yet classic vocal style. When listening to Mathew sing, you can hear elements of jazz crooning, soulful runs, powerful broadway belting and a classical vibrato.
Mathew’s formal training in Canada and his artistic awakening in London only solidified his signature sound. After returning home to Canada, Mathew penned a deal with 604 Records and his first albums “The Fifth” & “Two Faced” included top 40 radio hits, international charting success and critical acclaim from the likes of Billboard, Nylon & American Songwriter. In recent years, Mathew has become a sought after topliner in the dance world, with #1’s in 34 countries landing cuts with Vigiland, Shaun Frank, Raaban and more.
Now with a catalogue over 100 million streams, a Juno nomination and fresh off a standing ovation at Massey Hall, Mathew found himself empowered to make a bold return to the jazz music he was raised on. Leaning into his seasoned crooner style vocals, Mathew’s debut vocal jazz album “Anything Goes” went number 1 on Canadian jazz charts, as did the singles “The Man I Love” & “My Boy.” Mathew’s trailblazing queer perspective on the Great American Songbook received critical acclaim from GLAAD, NPR, Broadway World, JAZZIZ & more. On the social front, Mathew sprinted forward on TikTok with his jazzy interpretations of popular songs leading to multiple viral moments and amassing millions of views.
